PolygonCounter is a short utility to let you
count both Faces and Polygons (N-Gons) in your scene.
The so-called Polygon Counter Utility
shipping with MAX counts only triangle Faces.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
PCounter takes into account edge visibility
and assumes that each invisible edge is shared by 2 faces.
It counts the invisible edges and calculates
the number of N-gons built of faces sharing these edges.
NOTE that the script is fully commented
so you can read it yourself and find out how it works.
Version 0.31 (01/31/2000)
Converted to MacroScript with a floater for MAX 3.x
In addition, Version 0.31 allows counting of selected faces only.
Version 0.21 will still work as Utility in both MAX 2.x and 3.x
Press the [COUNT POLYGONS] button to execute the script.
Use the Use Object Selection checkbox to define the
When the checkbox is checked (default),
only selected Meshes will be processed
When the checkbox is unchecked, ALL
meshes in the scene will be processed
Only Geometry Objects (which can be converted to EditableMesh)
will be processed.
The utility will report
the total number of objects,
the number of meshes processed,
the total number of faces,
the number of selected faces,
the number of polygons built by either all or selected faces.
The utility will NOT check for coplanar faces - any
two faces with a common invisible edge will be counted as a polygon.
In the case of open (unshared) invisible edges, there
might be slightly incorrect results.
Thanks to Yinako Minako for the idea.
