MacroScripts are usually generated by the
Macro Recorder, but the user
can write his own, much more complex MacroScripts
to be placed as buttons
on Toolbars and Tabs.
To install a MacroScript, copy the .MS
file to your \Scripts directory, or
any directory you want to store the original
source into.
PLEASE Download the latest updated
Bobomacro User Interface Icons.
Icons inside of the ZIP files might be outdated.
Copy these icons into the \UI directory and restart
MAX.
The MacroScripts which require icons will automatically
select the correct one.
If the icon files are missing, a text button will
be suggested automatically.
Use the Open Script command in the MAXScript
drop-down menu.
Press Ctrl+E to evaluate the script. (or
use File/Evaluate).
Please NOTE the Category name in the first
line of the script.
Right-click a toolbar and select "Customize..."
(or use Customize/Customize UI...)
In the Customize dialog, find the Category
you noted, select the script from the list.
Drag the Button representation of the
script from the dialog to a toolbar. Close the dialog.
NOTE that some MacroScripts will use the
supplied icons, while other will have just text buttons.
You can select your own icons from the
MAX library, or create your own using the Custom Icon Maker script.
To start the script, press the button on the toolbar.
IMPORTANT: When dragging a script to a
toolbar, a new copy of the script's source is created
automatically in the \UI\MACROSCRIPTS
directory. This copy will be evaluated next time you
launch MAX. If you open and modify the
original source and Re-Evaluate it, the button copy of
the script will be updated, too.
NEVER copy the original source of the
MacroScript into the \UI\MACROSCRIPTS directory!
You can rearrange buttons inside the User
Interface by holding down the Alt key and
dragging the icon/button to the new position
inside the same toolbar or to another toolbar.
To copy toolbars, tabs and color schemes
between Custom User Interface layouts with all their
buttons and icons, use the CUI Merge script
avaiable from this site.
Scripted Plug-ins appear as usual DLL plug-ins
in the User Interface.
Their sources are handled as DLLs, too
- just copy the .MS file to the
\PLUGINS directory or any sub-directory
of \PLUGINS.
Next time you start MAX, the Scripted
Plug-in will be available in the
respective area of the User Interface:
Geometry and Object Plug-ins under
Create,
Modifiers under Modify/More...
Materials and Maps under Material Editor
- Material/Map Browser
RenderEffects under Rendering/Effects/Add...
To just test a Scripted Plug-in without
installing it permanently,
use the Run Script command from the MAXScript
drop-down menu
to evaluate the source.
The Scripted Plug-in will be available
for the respective MAX session only.
Next time you start MAX, the Plug-in will
NOT be available.
Right-Click Menus are an integral part
of the User Interface.
The Custom Right-Click Menu is provided
with MAX R3 for user enhancements.
Although you can alter the main Right-Click
menu too, you should do it at your own risk,
after making a backup copy of the original
Right-Click Menu.
Right-Click menus reside under \STDPLUGS\STDSCRIPTS\
To install an enhanced version of the
Right-Click menu, copy the respective file to that directory.
To use the Custom RC Menu, press the Ctrl
button and right-click with the mouse
anywhere in a Viewport.
Scripted Utilities used to be the main
script type in MAX R2.
In MAX R3, they are just one kind of few.
To start a Utility, use the Run Script
command in the MAXScript drop-down list or the MAXScript Utility to evaluate.
You can copy the MS file to the \SCRIPTS\STARTUP
directory if you want the utility
evaluated each time you start MAX.
To start a Utility, go to the Utilities
Tab, press the MAXScript utility button and select the name of the Utility
from the drop-down list.
