The so-called "Online Help" of R4 is something you should forget about
(since you seem to have the manuals :o)
As far as I remember it was the Alt key (YES, I really have never used
it!!!)
If you move the arrow over the right menus, a question mark appears.
I wonder what help would be for you to click on Renderer/Render and to
read "Renders the scene"... >:o|

As an addition to my last answer:
I think I know now what that help function is good for. As you probably
know, 3DS for DOS, unlike MAX, is an English-only program. There are no
local versions! But there are international help files for R4 - you
click with Alt pressed and get the description in German, for example!
I was sure Yost Group couldn't be wrong... ;o)
