Q: I tried to create a Mirror tunnel, by placing two mirrors in front of each other with a camera and a object in between. The only thing I see is the object once in both mirrors, not the reflection of the other mirror and so on.

I created the mirror using the material editor, reflection on auto, blur on 0, and further the default settings. In the preview I see a great mirror (with the ape and the checkers) After the render in the 3D editor I still have a great mirror. But he is not reflecting the reflection of the other mirrors.

I use 3ds 4 no add-ons or upgrades.

A: Sorry, 3DSr4 is not the right program for what you are trying to do...

There are two different Automatic Reflection Maps in 3DS and both can't do it:

  • What you use (with the ape/checker in the ME) is the Automatic Cubic Ref.Map. It CAN SEE another reflection, but works only with curved surfaces, not FLAT surfaces. You can control the times the reflection is repeated using the setting in 3DS.SET

  • There is also the Automatic Flat Reflection Map, it works perfectly with FLAT surfaces, never with curved, but IT CAN'T SEE another reflection!

What you need is a Raytracer like Rayman. Or (I hate to say it) Lightwave 3D. Or 3DS MAX with Raymax or RayStudio
