MEM's Max2Maya - Maya style viewport navigation inside 3ds max.
	V1.1 (January 24 2011)

First, the legal stuff - I'll try to keep it short, so that it's clear to everyone:

This software is provided 'as-is', without any express or implied warranty. I will not be held responsible for any damages resulting directly or indirectly from the use of this software.
You are not allowed to modify the contents of the package in which this software is distributed or distribute the software extracted from the package, unless I give you permission to do otherwise.
You may not sell, rent, reverse engineer this software or any part of this software under any circumstances.
You may distribute and share this software free of charge. If you would like to publish it on your web page or any other kind of publication, you must obtain permission from me. I may be contacted at "mahreeooce3d@gmail.com".
If you have received my permission to publish the software according to the above conditions, you may only do so if this text file is distributed along with the software.

Sorry if some of this sounds a bit unfriendly, but I don't want to see people charging money for something they put no effort in realising while others share their work for free. I am providing you this completely free of charge and, in return, I'm asking you to respect my terms and conditions. I'm saying this because I hate seeing sites that sell copies of blender (an example, and it's true, there are such sites), which is free, as well as charging for documentation that is other people's hard work and who had the decency and generosity to share some of them for free.

	New in V1.2 :

User should no longer receive the message "An older instance of this script is already running. Replace it with this instance?", caused by max crashing (or its process being terminated from task manager) and not running the shutdown script.
(Thanks to Simon Reeves for pointing out the problem).

	New in V1.1 :

Made e few changes to the code - now, if you Alt + Left Click or Alt + Right Click in a viewport while another window is focused (like the uv editor or the material editor), the controls are picked and work as intended. Alt + Middle Click still is buggy and I'm not sure how and if I can fix it. Played around with a few "solutions" but, in the end, none proved acceptable, so, for now, you'll have to remember to clikc either the left or right mouse buttons in the viewport first, in case alt is held down, or, if you really want to pan the view, use the middle mouse button without alt pressed. This is only until the viewport becomes active, once you've activated it by clicking, you can use the maya navigation again without problems.
Also made Alt + Shift + Right Click available in uv view, aswell. Using this combination, you can zoom to your current cursor position instead of the center of the window... more of a side-effect that turned into a feature, really ;)

Ok, so, the short story goes like this:

This will make 3ds Max's viewport navigation scheme change from max's default to that of Maya.

Now, if you want the long story, here it is:

I always preferred Maya's viewport navigation scheme over that of 3ds max and I've noticed that other people share my feelings. There are, of course, those that think that max's navigation is better, but I've noticed that most of those people have worked with Maya (or other 3d applications that share it's navigation scheme) only after a long time of working with 3ds max and, in most cases, have returned to max. So, I guess you could blame it on habit, but I've also been using max a lot more than I've used Maya, but I just couldn't get myself to like the way it handles viewport navigation. It may have something to do with the fact that ever since mice have had scroll wheels (and that's a long time), having to press the narrow middle button (wheel button) for extended periods of time has become a real pain... and I mean that literally. I've also gotten the impression that Maya's Alt-Click based navigation is more fluid, it simply feels better. But the thing is I like max and I've gotten quite used to it over the years.
So, naturally, when an application came along that could change max's navigation scheme to that of maya (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to name it... or if I want to name it, for that matter), I found it quite appealing, but with the good came the bad... First of all, it wasn't free (call me cheap, whatever :p ). It also changed too much inside max - the navigation was fine, but I got used to max's ctrl-click selection, among other things (there's nothing wrong with Maya's shift-click selection, I just like max's, too).

This is why I made this application - to get the best of both worlds (well, that's how I feel). Bare in mind that I have no coding experience, and I've learnt how to do this and built it in 2 days, so bugs are a possibility... Thank you for understanding and be gentle with your comments :)

Now, before you get started, make sure you take note of these things:

While this is installed and active, 3ds max's viewport navigation will be as follows:
	-	Alt + Left Mouse Button = rotate view
	-	Alt + Right Mouse Button = zoom view (note that this doesn't work exactly like in Maya, it works only on the vertical axis)
	-	Alt + Middle Mouse Button = pan view
	-	Alt + Shift + Right Mouse Button = fine zoom (a slower zoom, good for when you're working really close to your model)
The navigation is also changed in the UV view, the dope sheet and the curve editor and in the Slate material editor (if you're using max 2011)
You can disable the maya navigation and return to max's default by pressing the Alt + Ctrl + F3 keyboard combination. Press it again to reactivate the maya navigation.
As the Alt + Left Mouse Button is used for rotating the view, you won't be able to use Alt + Left Click to deselect components. Use Alt + Ctrl + Left Click for that purpose.

Well, that's pretty much all I can think of mentioning right now. I hope you'll enjoy using MEM's Max2Maya and if you have feedback, be it bugs, thanks and words of praise, pictures of you, in case you're a pretty girl (try to keep them decent... but that doesn't mean they can't be naughty :)), youtube videos of squirrels fighting over nuts or trying to bury acorns (preferably in snow), you can contact me at:

It may take some time for me to answer, try not to hold it against me.

As I forgot to give thanks to those that deserved it in the previous read-me, I'll do so now. So I thank Fili for helping me with max script (actually, I did thank him inside the script itself, but then I encrypted the script, so now it probably reads DA>M&*%R&E%BN*)BJM<NA) and Ionut for helping me test this... and it was en effort for him, as he actually hates maya navigation and loves that of max... yeah, I know, some people... :)

PS: I was kidding about some of the things in the feedback section, so, please, don't spam me... unless you actually are a pretty girl, in which case it's okay to send me pictures of squirrels and cats and... well, don't be shy, now! I also accept milk and cookies
