99 Dimensions | v1.1 Release Notes

Date: May 19, 2026 Version: 1.1.0 Compatibility: 3ds Max 2024 - 2026+

Welcome to 99 Dimensions

99 Dimensions is a high-precision measurement and annotation suite designed for architects, designers, and 3D artists. It streamlines the process of adding architectural dimensions directly within the 3ds Max viewport with native-feeling integration and live updates.

 Key Features

Precision Drawing Tools

  • Plan Mode (Z-Offset): Quickly measure floor plans and horizontal distances with an interactive vertical offset.
  • Elevation Mode (Side-Offset): Perfect for wall details and vertical surfaces with perpendicular offset control.
  • 3-Click Workflow: Interactive placement allows for precise start, end, and offset positioning.
  • Smart Snapping: Full support for 3ds Max snapping during all three phases of placement (Start, End, and Offset).

Automation Suite

  • Instant Auto-Measure: Select one or multiple objects and generate dimensions for their bounding boxes with a single click.
  • Group vs. Individual: Toggle between measuring each object separately or the overall selection bounds.

Visual & Technical Control

  • Dynamic Styling: Choose between Solid, Outline, or 2D Flat text styles.
  • Thickness & Color: Fully customizable line weights and colors to match your presentation standards.
  • Auto-Scaling: Dimensions automatically scale their text size based on distance for consistent readability.
  • Live Unit Conversion: Switch between Scene units, mm, cm, m, in, or ft on the fly with precision control.

Workflow Integration

  • Layer Routing: Automatically route all dimensions to a specific layer (e.g., "Electrical_Dims") to keep your scene organized.
  • Native Qt Toolbar: Integrates seamlessly into the 3ds Max top toolbar area with a dockable, modern UI.
  • Undo/Redo Support: Fully integrated with the 3ds Max undo system.

What's New in v1.1.0 (May 19, 2026)

  • Group Bounding Box Support in Auto-Measure: Both "Individual Objects" and "Overall Selection Group" modes now fully support nested and closed groups. Bounding boxes are computed recursively relative to the group head's coordinate system (filtering out cameras, lights, and helpers) for perfect alignment and dimensions.
  • Fatal Undo Crash Resolution: Bypassed a native 3ds Max Populate system bug (CrowdAreaDraw.ms) which caused crashes when undoing operations that deleted selected nodes. The tool now keeps your original selection active after measuring rather than selecting the new dimension groups, preventing deselect callback exceptions.
  • Robust Undo System: Migrated interactive drawing tools to 3ds Max's global theHold undo system, ensuring that entire dimension placement operations (including interactive offsetting and mouse drags) are recorded as a single, clean undo step.
  • Auto-Cancellation & Viewport Cleanup: Added smart on stop event handlers that clean up temporary geometry/helper nodes and revert the undo state if the tool is deactivated mid-creation (e.g., when switching to standard Max tools like Move/Rotate or closing the UI).
  • UI Tweaks: Disabled "Allow 3rd Click Snapping" by default for a smoother offset drawing experience.

Installation

  1. Download: Ensure you have 99_Dimensions_v1.1.mzp.
  2. Install: Drag and drop the .mzp file directly into any 3ds Max viewport.
  3. Access:A new "99 Tools" toolbar will appear at the top. Click the "99 Dimensions" button to launch.
