Outliner

Version:
2.1.5
Date Updated:

The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.

Additional Info:

Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

3ds Max 2010

If you mean that group

If you mean that group contents aren't shown below their group head node, then that's by design. Imagine a scenario where the group contents are on a different layer than their group head, this would be confusing in the layer mode if you were expecting a group hierarchy.
You can turn this on though, there's a setting for it in the options dialog.

Oops! I used to have a little

Oops! I used to have a little macroscript included with the previous versions (< 2.0) that would reset the preferences, but I don't think it's still in there.

You can do it manually though:
-Close max.
-Search for this file on your computer: outliner_prefs.ini
-Make a backup of it, just in case something goes wrong.
-Open it, and edit the values posx, posy, width, height so that the window is positioned on the screen.
-Save the file.
-Start max.

I hope this helps. If you keep having problems like this when moving the Outliner (to a second monitor), let me know.

I haven't had time to look at

I haven't had time to look at the 3dconnexion space navigator issue yet, sorry. I'll do my best to find some time to find out what's going on and see if I can fix it.

This is great, I now actually

This is great, I now actually feel in control of my scenes. I'll never touch that frustrating Layer Manager again :) far too limiting. You've changed the way I use Max , brilliant script.

I've updated the Outliner to version 2.0.8.
This update includes a fix for the backburner/netrender issues with scenes containing nested layers.

You can get the update by using the "Check now" button in the options dialog, or alternatively, download it directly.
