Outliner

Version:
2.1.5
Date Updated:
09/13/2012

The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.

Additional Info:

Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

Has no one else gotten the merge issue? This is a real showstopper. It kills the ability to use Xref's, containers, etc.

Welp, after about 3 hours i've tracked down a bug to do with nested layers.

1. New scene, create a layer called "Parent" and another called "Child", attach Child to Parent.

2. Save scene as "TestA.max".

3. Ensure Child is the active layer, and add a teapot. Save this scene as "TestB.max".

4. Reload TestA, then attempt to merge TestB.

5. Boom! Doesn't occur with non-nested layers, and doesn't crash if you deleted Child in the TestA before merging.

Certainly. You can disable

Certainly. You can disable this "feature" in the options dialog, under "Layer Mode".
To remove the warning from a scene, open it with a 3dsmax installation that doesn't have the Outliner, and resave the scene.

I'm still looking for an easier way around this issue...

great script and would love

great script and would love to use it but when I net render through backburner it generates a dialogue box saying something about nested layers information from the outliner script. This causes the render to hang , which sucks.Anyway round this?

In the next build I'd like to have an option: when I dock the window in 3dsmax, may it expand to the full height? because now I have to undock it, change the height and then dock again. maybe it can be done automatic?
