The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.

Thanks, think dialog position was the culprit, however

yep, i suspected that might be the case, as script didn't error out, i just couldn't see the dialog.

i have followed your instruction, removed the [window] parameters to "reset".

however, when i run the dialog, it will keep defaulting to

and the posy just makes it out of my windows.

i am currently using 3 monitor setup, 2 vertical, one horizontal. not the usual layout, so perhaps its causing the weird behaviour.

do you have a function that it automatically positions itself when its launched? when i remove it, it just seems to default there.

i have tried not delting the parameter, but putting soemthing like 100, 100
but it will keep change to above numbers, and the dialog is not visible.

thanks for your help so far ; )

hope there is a fix for this issue ; )

I suspect that the dialog

I suspect that the dialog position that has been stored in the preferences is somewhere outside your monitor's resolution for some reason.
You can "reset" this by editing the preferences ini. You can find the location of this file by entering the following maxscript command in the maxscript listener:
(GetDir #userScripts) + "/outliner_prefs.ini"

In the ini file, there will be a [Window] section, with posx, posy, width, height and dockflag properties. You can safely remove all of them to reset the window preferences.

I hope that helps!

3ds max 2012 outliner window disapears and won't come back

Hi PJanssen! thanks heaps for an amazing script.
really enjoying using it!

been having an issue though.

i have installed it fine, no error
running it fine, no error when resetting, or opening files.

but yesterday, i tried moving the outliner window slightly and the window just disapeared. and when i try re-opening it, something seems to be working, but the window will never pop up.

i have tried re-installing, no luck

i have uninstalled, and re-installed, the window will appear properly, but when i am working and tried moving the outliner window again, it disapeared, and won't come back.

i have tried resetting all my dialogue positions, no luck (its as if the whole window does not exist).

was hoping if you/or anybody can shed some light on this issue.

again, thanks so much for all your work! its an amazing script!

According to his latest posts on CG-Talk Pier is currently checking for some crowdfunding possibilities to continue the project.

I hope it's not dead, the progress of Version 3.0 looks awesome so far.

It looks like the problem

After spending a few days trying to get along without Outliner I decided I really needed to get it back up and running. I re-installed it (it didn't say install, it said re-install) but it kept popping up the error. So I went to uninstall it and complained about not being able to remove "hotkey preferences". The uninstaller bar didn't finish and I had to close the window. I shut down our overactive virus scanner and tried uninstalling again, success! Then I was able to install (instead of re-install) and its working fine now.

The only weird thing is that the files that where throwing errors, now open fine but have missing layers. They where empty layers and that normally happens when I merge files but these files where not merged but old 2012 files I was opening in 2014.

How to reproduce this?
I tested with 3 nested layers(layer01-layer02-layer03), but max still works.

Careful with 3dsmax2014 and

Careful with 3dsmax2014 and SP3. This caused outliner to encounter problems while updating nested layers and then crashes max. SP2 and lower work just fine with outliner but something Autodesk did in SP3 breaks outliner.

Is there a timeframe or

Is there a timeframe or estimation as to when 3.0 will surface ?
Thanks in advance!
