selected objects

ereju · 2019-01-12

Hello i have purchased this plugin.
Is there any chance to change subdvs to selected objects only?

Thank you

grasshopper · 2018-01-17

Great Script Olly it's a fantastic time saver. What are the chances of you writing a new script to do the same thing for corona materials?

Olly · 2018-01-17

I have! I just need to find time to finish it off and release it. Watch this space.

Wont open

Carol Rein · 2015-08-11

Hi Olly, I´ve installed the tool but when I try to run it (via the shorcut I´ve assigned) it returns me this error:
Syntax error: at keyword parameter, expected name

Did I miss something?
Thanks!

missing transluscency type

magicseed · 2015-07-28

Hi Olly,

I've been using your script for quite a while and I am a donor. Your script is great but one thing I noticed is that it has no setting to select the transluscency type. In many evermotion objects, I found that they set the translucency type to "hybrid" which I ought to change to "none" for all the objects but this feature is not yet in your script. Can you please take a look at this? Thank you very much.

Regards,
Magicseed

Olly · 2015-07-30

Hi magicseed,

You need to choose the property "translucency_on" in section 2. Then choose the integer that represents the setting you want. I realise some of the proprty names are little hard to find, but Chaos set those not me!

For more infor on how to set drop downs please refer to the VMC script help.

Hope that helps?

Script Improvement

magicseed · 2015-09-14

Hi Olly,

Thank you for your reply. I realized that a bit too late. Your script is truly useful. I have a very strong recommendation though. I hope you can develop an interface that would allow to apply sets of properties instead of just one property on the go. For example, it would be more useful if I can select refraction, reflection, diffuse and glossiness and set the values and apply them on one go. And then, user should be able to save these settings for future use. Most importantly, the ability to apply this set of properties in batch mode (power user). I have tried the power user option but it can apply only one particular property. Not so helpful if I want to change 100 max files in my library. If I am going to change 5 properties, The script will open these files 500 times to complete the process.

Well, just my suggestion and I will continue to be your donor in developing this script. Very nice work!

Regards,
Magicseed

Script Improvement reply

Olly · 2015-09-14

Hi Magicseed,

I can see that opening the files 500 time is inefficient. I will look at this when I next get some time to develop the script and let you know how things go!

Cheers,
Olly

Problem with standard lights

NicolasC · 2015-04-21

Hello,

Has anyone experienced problems when setting all lights subdivs, that std lights subdivs don't get affected ? AFAIR, VMC had the problem a while ago, but this was solved ?

Thanks.

Olly · 2015-04-21

Hi NicolasC,

I will look into the standard light subdiv issue.

No eta on the subdiv reset for selected - it is trickier than I had hoped to get a graceful solution, but will persevere!

I have been working on storing the classes to improve the performance so it should help your issue with vraydirt maps.

I only work on this when I have a spare evening so you will have to bear with me - watch this space!

Cheers,
Olly

Hello Olly :)

NicolasC · 2015-04-22

Thanks for you answer !
I hope this bug with std lights can be fixed easily & quickly ... I've taken the habit to rely on VMC to tweak subdivs on all my scenes, so it was a bit of a pain to handle manually std lights subdivs yesterday evening ;)

Thanks again for your great work on VMC.

Cheers.

Same problem here

Tommy_LedZep · 2015-04-22

Hi,

I have the same problem as NicolasC for standard lights subdivs: it is not affected by VMC.
Another problem with lights is that "All Off", "All On", "Sel Off" and "Sel On" buttons don't work properly when there are both standard and VRay lights in the scene.
Anyway, thank you for this great script !

2 questions please :)

NicolasC · 2015-03-25

Hello Olly !

I have 2 questions about VMC (which is getting more and more essential with each update btw):

- any ETA for the activation of the Selected feature in Global Subdivs Reset ?
- with big scenes, I've noticed a huge slowdown in VMC processing as long as Maps is checked in Global Subdivs Reset section. Maybe I'm missing something, but in such scenes where the only map needing subdivs adjustment is VRay Dirt, why would it be so slow ? I've even been forced to kill 3dsmax process after about 15 minutes waiting ... then loaded the scene again, left everything checked apart Maps, and everything was fine ;)

Thanks again for your efforts enhancing VMC !

Cheers.

Changing Blur in Diffuse map ?

Tommy_LedZep · 2015-03-19

Hi,

Thank you for this great script ! I use it a lot but there is still something I can't do: I would like to set a particular value for both "Blur" and "Blur offset" values of bitmaps in my VRayMtls. So far I didn't find how to do it.
Does it mean I must be a donor to be able to do it ?

Thank you in advance for your answer,

Olly · 2015-03-19

Hi MaximuM,

Thank you for your question.

Yes that feature is unlocked for donors. If you are a donor and are still having trouble please email me!

Cheers,
Olly

VMC v2.1304 available

Olly · 2015-03-12

Introducing Batch Mode!

The VMC Script now has a Batch Mode (Power Tool) that allows you to set properties and reset subdivs on a whole directory. Great for getting your purchased asset collections where you want them.

Get the update here: http://www.oliverradford.com/3ds-max/scripts/vmc-vray-material-control/

Please let me know if you find any bugs!

Wildcards ?

NicolasC · 2015-02-24

Hello,

Thanks for the great work you do on VMC - definitely a must-have (that's why I made a donation btw :P).
A question though: would it be tricky to add an option in the "4.Apply Change To:" section, to be able to apply only to material using a defined prefix or suffix ? for example, apply change only to materials starting with Glass* or ending with *Inox ...

Thanks !

Olly · 2015-02-24

Thanks for the donation - much appreciated.

Interesting idea for the wildcards - I will look into it!

3dsMax 2015 Vray 3.10.03

ltchest · 2015-01-28

I just tried the latest version of this - when i install it says "-- Unable to convert: ""to type: BooleanClass". After that it says VMC is installed. When i try to run it, it will not open and repeats that first message. How do i uninstall and do a clean reinstall ? thx
ok - i realised you have to delete the old files from your local user folder & then reinstall. problem solved.

willsons · 2015-02-04

Hi!
I did not get where exactly and what do I have to delete to reinstall this script!?

I have been facing a little problem with this script. At first I installed the script and it run just fine, then i changed material subdivs to 8, but when i did that all of sudden all subdivs where changet to 128, and when i tried to open script againt to fix it I got an error:unable to convert undefined to type string.
It opens but the script window is blank and I can not do a thing.
any solution? pls help me, I dont want to change the material properties manualy.

error exception

oligophant · 2014-12-19

Thanks for the update, its a great tool ,but i got "syntax error: at keyword parameter, expected name" on 3dmax2011 x64

Same issue

Carol Rein · 2015-08-11

I got the same problem :( did you find a solution?
Thanks

LeandroM · 2015-12-14

I got the same problem. Syntax error: at keyword parameter, expected name

I think any version of VLC created in 2015 don´t works on max older than 2013.

Would have to make available for download again review v2.126?

The last version I have here is the 2.01. It´s running at max 2010, however has a bug that does not work change some properties of selected objects.

I also have version 1.12 that works a little better, but not have as many features.

Thanks.

Working

Tommy_LedZep · 2015-12-17

Hi, I have 2.13.04 working fine here on Max 2015.
Maybe uninstall and reinstall it properly would fix your problem ?
Hope it helps.
Edit: sorry I just understood that you are trying to make WMC working on OLDER versions of 2013 ...

Does it works with 3ds max 2014??

marche · 2013-09-26

Hi first of all thank you for this script! It helped me when I needed to remove a material interpolation that created additional passes and slows the calculation. That was when I used 3ds max 2010, now I switched to the 2014 version and have the same problem!!! I belive the script does not work with 3ds max 2014, I mean... the script installed correctly, and found the category to creat the shortcut button ... but nothing happens when I press it, the scripts windows should appear...

Olly · 2013-10-11

Did you manage to get it to work? It works with 2014 here.

Great !

NicolasC · 2013-08-21

Big thanks for the update - now that I work in a company and will use your script quite often I guess, I'll make a donation, at the end of the month !

Thanks again,

Regards.

NicolasC · 2012-10-14

Hello,

I've just noticed that std lights using VRayShadow don't seem to be handled ... I mean, shadows subdivs aren't changed ;) could you please fix that ?
So far, I used my own little script to do that, but since you've greatly enhanced your VMC, why not getting it doing it all :)

Many thanks !

Bug

Olly · 2012-10-18

Thanks for the pointer, I'm looking in to it.

NicolasC · 2012-10-08

Amazing ! thanks a lot :)

VMC for 2013

Olly · 2012-09-11

I'm getting a few emails from people having trouble with the VMC script in Max 2013. However everyone's problems are slightly different and I'm unable to reproduce them all.

I'll get it working for the next release, so if you are having any problems at all (or have any feature requests out suggestions) please feel leave a reply.

Thank you!

haldus · 2012-08-11

This script is one of the most useful I ever encountered! Thx in advance for all the hours you spared me! Which reminds me why the hell don't they, at Chaos group, implement this directly in Vray.

Great Tools

cockrane · 2011-01-19

Very usefull tool but can we have the possibilitiy to change the gamma of a texmap?
For exemple override the gamma of a diffuse map to 1, 2.2 or 0.45454 if we d like to work in linear workflow like in this case:
http://www.aversis.be/tutorials/vray/essential_gamma_03.htm

Olly · 2010-02-22

v1.12:

Increased height of property drop down and add active medit slot button.

Waltez · 2010-02-15

Not change the value Refl.Glossiness 1.0 defaut a 0,55 Why?

Sorry, I was wrong

mhinks · 2009-09-07

Great script. I wonder how easy it would be to add a function to strip all maps/bitmaps on any given material type? I often find I open a scene from someone with missing maps and want to quickly strip the maps to get an error free render.

fajar · 2009-08-18

Yes,I agree with titane357, like light lister in max, it have more properties to shown up, your drop down is too confuses to me (to much setting that not show), not efficient for fast move!

titane357 · 2009-08-18

Thanks for update Olly...
For the drop down list I was dreaming on a heighter list (more properties seen) ;-)

Olly · 2009-08-18

v1.11:
Bug fix for scene mats button. Increased width for drop downs to help with long names.

Fransvh · 2009-06-07

Great script, many thanks!!
I am working with Lele's 0.255 methode and what I mis in this script is the option to change the RGB-output of the diffuse and the reflection map. No I use a old script to change these values, but there is no option to do that only on the materials of the selected objects.
