Selecting vertices of a spline

I have a spline made by attaching 2 rectangles at different elevations and 4 lines connecting 4 corners of these rectangles that actually represents a box. I need a script to select all 4 vertices on the left side of this spline so I can move them to resize my box.
I would appreciate your help on this.
