HELIX

Hey Guys,
I am looking for a way to to show a helix running just like a path constraint but showing the helix starting at 0% and then showing the full length at 100%. I made one by adding little cylinders but it was a lot of work.
Thank from
Paul

SuperHelix is the answer for you!

Check out this great script!

SuperHelix is a professional tool to create complex helix splines for 3D modeling, Animation and VFX.

two solutions without need of

two solutions without need of scripting. maybe one suits your needs..

1)one way: you can add a little cylinder (with very lots of height-segments) and put a "Path Deform (World Space Modifier)" on it. Pick the Path (e.g. your helix), click "move to path" and animate the spinner "stretch".

2)depending on the shape of the helix you could also activate the "Render in Renderer/Viewport" properties of the helix maybe with radial thickness, then put the slice modifier on top with slice type "remove top/bottom", then animate the subobject "slice plane" and finally put the modifier "Cap Holes" on it.

Helix

It's GOOD!

I checked out your #1 method and it works a treat.

Thank you very much.
Oh! one more thing is there a way to run a Helix towards the center point
of a sphere and as it intersects the surface of the sphere put a litle sphere
in this position. Please check out my last video called 3d fractals, strings of order. I show a triple helix passing through 3 vertices of oposite faces of an Icosahedron.
And another coming in the oposite direction doing the same for a Dodecahedron.
I am onto something very interesting here. If anybody is sharp enough for this
they are probably members of this forum.

Hey paul, glad the path

Hey paul,

glad the path deform helps out.
for the other question you have i have a bit problems of understanding your needs. ... ok i did found your video about 10 minutes ago^^

"[..]pretty complex, but i think it´s a perfect order[...]" :)

before i have seen your vid i thought some special pFlow system setup might help but right now i am very confused.

i have to admit that i barely understand what you are explaining there. it looks very interesting but still very very complex to me and my knowledge about such detailed geometry is too low. what you showed is beyond my current imagination.

i might be able to create some more or less detailed maxscript to save time while working in 3ds max but my abilities about real 3d programming is equal zero.

hopefully some of the professional programmes here might help you out!

but i am willing in getting a better understanding of your subjects and i will write you a pm and maybe we can get in contact.

with best regards

Helix

OK le1se,

Actually I am self taught with this type of geometry it's a hobby of mine I left school at 16 1/2 . I might not make sense of math but I can figure out the 3d geometry. I am very impressed by the modifiers you guys come up with. I started with
an Amiga 2000.

Thanks from
Paul

Helix

OK me amigo
I am going to try what you say. Maybe later someone can come up with a script
to follow a spline 0 to 100%. I think it would be a handy tool for showing
paths of movement.
Thanks
