Quad spheres with subdivisions not maintaining their diameter

Is there any way to edit the script so that it spherifies the quad sphere after each subdivision to maintain its diameter and not look half cube half sphere?
I could do it manually with the spherify modifier but gets tedious after the 1st subdiv.
