A quick script for randomly changing the startup image for 3ds max.

I have seen other ones out there, but they require additional software, and have more complicated installations, so I made this one for me.

To install:

1. Unzip all files to a folder

2. run install.bat

if the folder structure of your max installation is different, simply copy the contents of $Scripts to your 3dsmax/scripts/ folder.

I have provided 2 splash images, but you can add as many, named whatever you like. Just put them in the /max/scripts/splashes/ folder. They will need to be a .bmp But they can be whatever resolution or aspect ratio you desire.

Update

Hi!

A small update, letting you put an overlay image with version (or anything else).
I use to work with several versions and it irritated me to show the wrong version (in case the splash had a version hardburned into it) or simply a reminder of what version I just launched.

Aaron, if you wish, you could attach the file to the original post for others to find.

Is there a "splash.bmp" in

Is there a "splash.bmp" in the install directory for your 3ds max install?

Some ideas, give yourself administrator privileges perhaps?
Try manually overwriting that file in your install directory, and see if there are any errors that come from that.

Let me know and I'll try and help! :)

Doesn't it work? Just

Doesn't it work? Just manually copy the contents of the $scrips folder the the max installation / scripts directory. That should do it. If that doesn't do it, let me know.
