Outliner
The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.
Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

Brilliant. You are the man :D

I've fixed the "object
I've fixed the "object properties" dialog opening twice issue. It turned out that it wasn't just this, but that in some (fairly common) circumstances, all actions done from the context-menu were performed twice! With many actions you would not have noticed it, but it would have had some performance impacts I'm sure. So it's good to have this fixed now, thanks again for reporting it.
The middle-mouse double-click crash has been fixed too. Both fixes will be included in the next update.
You're right about the Object
You're right about the Object Properties! I wonder how I ever missed that! I guess I need a QA team, hehe. Thanks again for reporting.
I'll get back to you about the feature requests.
Mmm... what about an "Expand
Mmm... what about an "Expand all" and "Colapse all" (or selected)? After I selected a couple of things quite nested in my scene is very hard to see things here as the tree is huge. Having this on the right click options would be enough I guess. Also an "auto expand/colapse" could be a cool feature. If you select something that is in a deep level of a tree, it could do what it already does, and when you unselected it, colapses it back.
Oh! And another potential bug. When you open the "object properties" and close it, it opens it again... weird.
Thanks :)
A pleasure. Thank YOU!

Good find! I'll fix it.

Hi again. I've found a bug...
Hi again. I've found a bug... I think. Double middle click on an object makes MAX crash.
About suggestions, thumbnails of the materials for the Material tab would be great, but I guess that'd make the script much slower...
Thanks!
Thanks, it's great to hear
Thanks, it's great to hear that people find this useful!
If you have suggestions for additional features of the material mode, or the Outliner in general, let me know!
This is just a post to say
This is just a post to say your tool is truly AMAZING. I know is great to get sometimes a bit of flattering, so here I go :)
I've used 3ds for the past 17 years. Then I changed to a new studio and now I use XSI and a bit of Maya. What I found is:
1.- Max is not as bad as all the XSI and Maya users use to say (is pretty awesome in fact)
2.- Something actually cool in these other programs are the Explorer (XSI) and the Outliner (Maya). When at home I went back to MAX I really missed this :(
Now I've found your script and I can say I'm a new MAX user. This is AWESOME!!! Very well done :D And the Materials tab is amazing. I'm specialized on shaders and lighting and this simplifies a lot the way of seeing the materials that I have in the scene.
THANKS A LOT!!!!! :D
Something I forgot to mention
Something I forgot to mention about the last release, 2.0.8, is that I've also included a little tool to clean up the layer warnings in pre-2.0.8 scenes.
You'll find it under Customize -> Customize User Interface -> [Category] Outliner.
It can either clean up the currently opened scene, or do a batch clean up on a specific folder and its subfolders.
