Outliner
The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.
Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

Man is windows7 really that restrictive? I thought I would've countered the security issue by putting all script files in the user dirs...

Minimize your security and it should work well.
I don't like it. I LOVE IT.

That is very odd.. Could you check if those directories indeed don't exist after you've dropped the .mzp into 3dsmax? (and before clicking install).
And if it doesn't exist, maybe you could run a search on your harddrive for 'outliner' to see where the file do end up being copied to.
ps. it might be easier to discuss this problem over email. You can contact me through my website: www.threesixty.nl thanks.

Thanks for the amazing script. I've tried to install into my 3ds Max Design 2011 (latest version) 64-bit in Windows 7 Ultimate but the following message came out:
"Copy New Files Failed
Please see the MaxScript Listener (F11) for details"
and in the Listener:

@titane357: in the next update, there'll be an option to put the main UI buttons at the top. Just added it, it was quite easy.

Hi...
great script... since max 2008 I have hated the new Selection tool from max and I wrote my own which could do everything in a better way. single clicks and all that but yours is so much better and quicker to handle 1000's of objects... so well done
One problem I have is that in hierarchy mode it lists everything based on the filter and not by the objects visible in the viewport or isolated objects which is what it should do... only list objects you are working with... Is there a change you could fix that feature because it doesn't even grey out the hidden stuff so there is always a big list in hierarchy mode.
cheers

Thanks.
- A matter of preference I guess. I'll think about making this optional. (it will be a bit of a low-prio thing to be honest though)
- Yes that is true, there is a bit of flashing when you open it docked. This has nothing to do with stability or being solid though, it's simply the way max handles dialogs. A dialog has to be undocked before it can be closed, and has to be opened before it can be docked.

To uninstall, download the .mzp package, run it (either by dragging it into 3dsmax, or going to MaxScript -> Run Script), and choose "uninstall".
If you want to install a new version over an old one, you don't have to manually uninstall first.
