Relink Bitmaps is a script to easily relink all missing files (Bitmaps, VRayMeshes, Mental Ray Proxies, VRayHDRI, IES, etc) when they change directories or when you move computers, check out the short video tutorial below for more detailed information.

Unlike some other scripts of its kind, this is free!  There is a small donation link within the script if you choose to donate, I will remove the nag.  It is a simple licensing system, that does not force you to transfer network cards or be connected to the internet and will work with all versions of Max that are supported by the script.  If you choose to donate I'll be more than happy to license multiple computers as well.

Features:

[*] All 3dsmax supported Bitmap Texture types
[*] (new) Relinks Mental Ray Proxy files
[*] (new) Relinks VRay Proxies (.vrmesh)
[*] (new) Relinks VRayHDRI files
[*] (new) Relinks IES files (including VRayIES files)
[*] (new) Automatically checks for script updates and new versions
[*] 250% speed increase from previous versions
[*] Command-line mode available for automating repetative tasks (see documentation on the website)
[*] Configurable default user options saving button clicks and wasted time

the internal update feature caused a bug here..

hello , this great script is giving problems after:

it asked me if i wanted to update to new version and i chose "later"
now it gives me this error when i run it

--Unable to convert: undefined to type : Integer.

now i will try a fresh install

View map in viewport

Hi Colin, this script is great but I have found it disables the view map in viewport function. I have to copy a blank slot into the diffuse slot, and then add the bitmap again. It then views as normal in the viewport. Clicking reload has no effect. Have you run in to this problem before?

I am using Max 2010 Design with a Quadro FX 1700.

Thanks for the video "Missing External Files"

One would think 3ds Max would do a better job for Missing External Files.
Newbie. Frustrated.

We donated to you through PayPal. Thanks.

Edited:
thank you for the explanation... but I know about and I find it good for the job.

but for example if you work with a indigo scene or maxwell render one... you also need some special text files, like *.nk that contains all ior data to build directly a real material like platin without to edit it in a way.

I tried with an imported max setted scene for maxwell from another machine... and it obviously replace all maps.... but it don't look for such files that are to be loaded from a slot in the material editor. like for example a *.mxm file that is a maxwell material file.

it would be cool if your good tool could recognize all kind of files in the material editor or in the scene.... and relink them.
for example if the ior/r2/mxm file is missing.... maxwell after parsing the scene stop.... without to start rendering

thank you any way

The tool

It just finds maps that are currently missing in the scene regardless of the extension.

For instance: if you are working on a portable harddrive and your maps are on "K:\Textures\Maps\" and then you switch to a computer without a K: drive, your maps will be missing and 3dsmax will prompt you to find them. If you just point Relink Bitmaps at the new directory they're all in, it'll fix them all for you.

can it also look for *.nk,

EDITED:

thank you for fast feedback ;)

well I've installed and checked ;) *.nk, *.ior, *.r2, etc. all special files they are not recognized by the tool.

is there a way to add them?
If this could be possible that would be awesome.. cause it's very annoing to look for them each time. the files are primarely text file with a custum extension.

thanks

Yes

It's compatible with any renderer. It just relinks your bitmap files to the correct path. It doesn't care what materials they're assigned to.

Enjoy,
Colin
