This is an old script of mine from the days when 3dsmax replaced it's old Layer Manager with the new Layer/Scene Explorer.
Recently I went back and fixed a few issues it had that were preventing me from releasing it in the past.
This script is reproducing the old Layer Manager exactly as it was.
This script is given as open source and without any support. Enjoy :)

Nice and simple! The new layer manager's complexity always bothered me; having a simple interface such as this will speed up workflows.
Are you taking suggestions? The one thing I miss is nested layers. They have become essential to our workflow, and it would be awesome if you were able to incorporate them in future updates.
