Split Models to max 64 000 K faces automatically?

Hi, if i export some model to *.3ds format, theres a limit to max 64 000 faces (tris?) per model, sometimes i have a more complex model with different parts that have more than this, splitting the models (via detach) manually so each separate part of the model has less then 64 000 faces takes quite a time, is there a script please that can check the scene and automatically separate (detach group of faces)of the object so that each new part has less than 64 000 faces?
Is there something like this already existing please (i didnt come acros something like this)?

Hi, yes i need to use also

Hi, yes i need to use also the 3ds format, splitting by element is a good idea using some script it might be quick, but checking number of faces of the BIG (ammount of faces) elements is not good for me, because i use a lot of objects and i dont have the time and will to do it manuly every time :-).

So dont you know please by accident, if there exist something?

thank you

Is it important to be *.3ds file extension? I ask because this format is very old. As alternitive you can check first if object have some elements and separate by elements if not then check number of faces and then detach by faces less then 64K of course.
