Top 3 Ways to Turbocharge SketchUp on Large Projects

Here are three techniques for improving three specific areas of SketchUp that affect nearly every large-scale architectural project: interactivity, output time and file size.

nXtRender - new, low-cost renderer for SketchUp

nXtRender is a new rendering application for Google
SketchUp from Render Plus Systems. nXtRender uses the new AccuRender
nXt rendering engine and integrates it seamlessly into SketchUp making
it one of the easiest ways to create photorealistic images. nXtRender
uses ray-trace rendering techniques, reflections, transparency,
highlights, shadows and lighting effects to produce realistic

Render Plus Systems announces a new rendering engine for Google SketchUp

Render Plus Systems has released a new add-on Rendering Engine for SketchUp. nXtRender, which is based on the new AccuRender nXt rendering engine from McNeel and Associates, is powerful, easy to use and fully integrated into SketchUp. By defining reflection, lighting, transparency and materials in their models, SketchUp users can quickly and easily create photorealistic renderings.

3D Rad Exporter - Interactive architectural walkthroughs and games with SketchUp

3D Rad Exporter is a free plug-in for SketchUp allowing you to easily export 3d models to ready-to-use 3D Rad objects.

List of changes

I'll fill this out in the coming days as the update goes live

- Embedded Media Field for adding links to video tutorials / examples. There are many instances where showing usage via a youtube clip would really help out. There is now a field when submitting scripts, plugins & tutorials that lets you paste in the link to a video (any type) and it'll create a player window for that video.

Selector

Opens a dialog to select entities by type (edge, face, group, or instance.) This is a very basic tool (toy?), but could be expanded to include multiple criteria (such as selecting by Layer or material.)

SU Podium

You can now make TRUE photo-realistic rendering of your SketchUp model
without the pain and frustration of learning a complex program. Podium
runs completely inside SketchUp from start to finish. It uses SketchUp
features such as textures, background colors, groups and shadows to
achieve impressive results. Podium is intuitive to SketchUp users.
Plus, its simple interface cuts the learning curve to minutes instead
of days. Make an impression without the pain. SU Podium works with
SketchUp 5 or 6, Pro or Google SketchUp.

Sphere Tool

This script adds a Sphere option to SketchUp's Draw menu.

Update

Just a reminder to check my blog for my most recent work.

Ruby Panel Toolbar Button

This small plugin creates a new toolbar button to open the Ruby Console window.
The .zip file contains a script and an image. Extract and then copy all the files to your Plugins directory.

Add Hidden Layer

Adds a new Layer that is turned off by default - not only for existing pages (or scenes), but for any new pages (or scenes.) Should work with SketchUp versions 5 or 6.

Ruby Newbie

Hello everyone,

I am brand new to Ruby Scripting in SketchUp and Ruby scripting in general, but I managed to throw together a script after an hour or so of searching through the mysterious Sketchup Ruby Scripting API documentation. Anyways, all the things I really want the API to do don't seem to be possible.
