"Hello" to the San Diego 3ds max usergroup

Just wanted to give a quick shout out to all the people at the San Diego 3ds max user group!

New google search options

There are now two new ways to search for ScriptSpot or MAXScript related content via a google CSE (custom search engine). A CSE allows for the creation of a search engine that searches only certain sites.

A few new updates today + fixed old script categorization + a new contest

So, the site's been down now for 2+ hours while I've been painstakingly merging data from my local dev machine with the live site. This past week I've spent quite a while going over the old scriptspot data and properly categorizing scripts (one of the biggest problems with the current site is scripts weren't categorized properly). Fortunately, thats should all be fixed now (I only say "should" since I can't possibly check every page, so if something was left out, use the contact form below to reach me).

Wanted: script developer to debug existing animation import/export script

I've been contacted by a studio looking for a MAXScript developer who can debug some problems they're having with their animation import / export script. If you're interested, contact me and I'll pass along your info.

UPDATE: position has been filled. Thanks for the responses!

ShaderFX 1.5 is now available

Kees Rijnen and I would like to announce that version 1.5 of ShaderFX (the node-based real-time shader editor for 3ds Max) is now available at http://www.lumonix.net/shaderfx.html. This version is a free upgrade to those who have already purchased the plugin - and as always - a free demo is available for download.

FYI - 3ds forum organization change

Just wanted to make sure everyone knew the ScriptSpot forums have been reorganized (the way they should have been in the first place)!

The new forum structure allowed for the addition of two areas that I am excited to announce - a Freelance area and a Scripts Wanted area! ... A key component of the freelance area is the use of the user profile "contact" feature. This can be enabled in your user profiles towards the bottom where there is a checkbox for "personal contact form" - make sure to enable it. Alternatively, you're welcome to post your email address publicly if you'd rather...

Announcing the ScriptSpot "RE-launch"

The day is finally here! I am proud to announce an entirely new ScriptSpot is here! Completely rebuilt from the ground up, the new site has been built specifically to address the needs of the community for years to come.

Check out these new features:

  • User based content submission (scripts, extensions, tutorials, news). No more waiting for your script, plugin, tutorial to go live. All of you have the ability to get your content live, any time, 24/7/365.
  • User blogging that pulls together your blog with all your submitted content. Example - my blog allows me to blog any new announcements or news about myself / my submissions while making it easy for users to see what content I've submitted and what content has been marked as my "favorite". The idea was to create a way for users to have their own blog and storage for their relevent content and present it to people in a very readable way.
  • Additional application support - initial site rollout adds SketchUp, future additions of XSI, Maya, Lightwave, Rhino, Cinema4D, etc based on demand.
  • Favorites allow users to mark any content as their "favorite" then allowing the community to see what scripts particular people find to be useful. Favorites are implemented on the individual user blog page.
  • Email subscription allows users to subscribe to virtually all content, be it a script, plugin, blog and be notified via email when it is updated or commented on.
  • Full comment system and content ranking. Like a script or plugin? Give it a thumbs up by clicking the "plus" sign on the voting widget. Want to leave some constructive feedback, use the comment system to contribute your thoughts!
  • Forum - really, its about time!
