This MCG will parse your spline by segment or element.

MCG Pixelize Bitmap

This would most likely be completely useless...but do I care about what you think....not really. It was an exercise in how to process 2D array (the bitmap) in 'clusters'...so you can learn the technique from here if you can be bothered.

Installation:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudH...

(2018 can be drag & drop mcg into viewport)

MCG Mesh Contours

What's there to say really...

Installation for Max 2016/17: (2018 can be just drag+drop)

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudH...

Then can be found in Create>Shapes>Vu.

MCG Simple Branches

No....not L-system. Instructions here, don't ask me to hold your hands...the very least you can do is read a bit... http://area.autodesk.com/learning/mcg-whats-new-2018--sample-pack

If you're ultra lazy, you can just drag 'n drop the mcg into the viewport.

(of course, it can be done with 2016/17 too..but I ain't going backwards..)

Loops from Surface

Simple example of growing loops from open-ended surface. As such, it only looks for the first border and expands from there. Here it is shown on Cylinder with caps removed (default advanced sweep output would also work):
