I'm working as an architectural visualizer at MIR. usually i import files from OBJs. this little script splits the single imprted obj into different parts and gives the new node/object the name of the material it originally had.

Thats what i use it for but it does the same thing for any object with sub-materials.
let me know if theres any problems

Version Requirement:
3ds Max 2009 is all i know so far

nice script

Nice, works in 2010 just fine
This script also converts detatched faces to polys from original imported obj mesh.

Ahem ...Not so sure about the assigned object name if the object has no material imported with it.

Would be nice if the script also assigned a unique object color as the script detatches each ID for wireframe and edged face views.

Good work, thanks.
