Simple script, if people find it useful I'll make a gui and add a bit more to it. But the whole premise was to just quickly build a tool I could differentiate big objects from small objects in my scene based on VolSize variable in the script.

What I used it for was to fracture objects for a big landslide for a film, and then I wanted to use this script to tell me which objects were big so I would then work on making them procedurally break more, whereas I didn't want the small pieces to sub-fracture because that would be overkill.

*Put the file in "Scripts\Startup" , then restart 3DS MAX
*It is in [Create>Geometry>Scripted Primitives].

Constraints Module

5 votes

This script will automatically setup a "module" of three shapes where a star shape been wired to the other two via position and rotation constraints. The control is estabished through a couple of custom attribute sliders on the star. It allows you to animate the sliders of the star to gravitate towards either the circle or square, regardless of what the other shapes are doing. You can also freely animate the star as long as both sliders are to the left (off).

FFX-Render-Manager

Big scale effects require usually more than one FFX. Having a lot of FFX and holdout objects asks for a lot of memory. Limited memory means rendering in passes. Different lights and shaders per pass multiply the renderpasses again.

To setup a render, it takes some steps and usually you forget one and need to resubmit. That's why I wrote this script, that overviews everything and gives the ability to set it up fast.

I avoided using .NET intentionally, because in big scenes it sometimes takes a long time just to open a scripted tool.
