Outliner
The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.
Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

This is way cool. I might just get hooked on it...
And excellent 'customer' support! Thanks.

To make sure: could it be that the "filter affects viewport" is on and all objects are filtered out? Other than that, the Outliner doesn't do anything with object visibility unless you explicitly tell it to do so (i.e. click the "hide" button).

hi,
sorry to bother you, i have a new bug to report and i found out that is related to the outliner.
see this post for example images:
http://www.the-area.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/autodesk-3ds-max--3ds-max...
well i found out that max 2012 + nitrous driver + outliner on startup can make the objects in viewport invisible. while all is ok when one start manually the outliner.
isn't a big thing... but it's good to know.
btw i have a nvidia graphic card.... just to pinpoint that isn't related to such a limitations.
PS: nitrous drivers has some issue mostly displaying related like nurbs etc.

hi.
i have a problem and hope in a bit help.
i'm using nested layer :) and i can't get why from time to time some nested layers disappears... but also the layers in them aren't listed!
is there a way to backup the layers and the nested layer info for a scene?
Well at least there's a
Well at least there's a solution, so thanks :) This scene was most definitely started a while ago pre-2.08.
You're right about the fact
You're right about the fact that it doesn't remove it from the current scene (or any others that it was added to). You can use the macroscript "Remove Outliner nested layer warning" to clean scenes.
As for the warning showing up with backburner, that shouldn't happen. At least not when the scene was created with a recent version (2.0.8 and later). There was a bug in earlier versions, and the only way to get rid of that in a scene is by using the above-mentioned macroscript.
I have to admit that implementing this feature was a bit of a mistake. The idea itself wasn't so bad, but it has caused quite a few annoyances and problems.
"Add outliner check..." doesn't save.
"Add Outliner check to scene where using nested layers" doesn't seem to remove the check when you turn it off. I'm still getting the message when I submit it to backburner. Using 2.0.96.
Other than that, I haven't used the default Max selection window/layer manager for a year!
nested layer is
nested layer is awesome.
simplify a lot of works...
i think that your script will aquired from autodesk.. to replace the crappy layer manager.
:)
They're nice aren't they? ;-)
