Outliner

Version:
2.1.5
Date Updated:
09/13/2012

The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.

Additional Info:

Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

That's a curious bug! I will

That's a curious bug! I will look into it, thanks for reporting.

Apparently there's an issue

Apparently there's an issue with the nested layers and merging them. I will look into that issue and fix it. In the meantime, here's a little tool to remove the nested layer data (not the layers themselves) from a scene or a batch of scenes: http://code.google.com/p/outliner/source/browse/trunk/maxscript/macroscr...
This will be included in the coming update as well.

I really wish I could

I really wish I could implement this! I had looked into it a while ago, but could not find anything that could support it. I can give it another go though.

There are many issues with

There are many issues with docked windows in max 2011 and 2012. I am aware of them (although I can't reproduce the undocking issue myself) and will try to find a way to work around them. However, I believe this to be a generic issue in maxscript rather than the Outliner specifically. So it will be hard to find a solution I'm afraid.

Meanwhile, have a look at this section of the website: http://script.threesixty.nl/outliner/index.php/known-issues

Resizing the docked window

Great tool! Looks like a dream come true - ability to nest layers.
A minor suggestion - it'll be great if one can control the size of the docked window. Any chance of implementing this? And it also seems that once docked it can't be undocked. Am I doing something wrong? I'm using Max 2012 x64 with both SPs and hotfixes intalled. Thanks!!!

PICK problem

Hi. This script is a must, but i am terrified with my friend's issue (Alan Camilo). He lost its project usint this script and nested layer. Any fix to that issue ? It is an issue ?

Anyway i am testing the script and it's incredible, but now i have a problem too. Everytime i use any PICK button and press "H" to pick my object and click on the target object in OUTLINER it's not working. :( The "PICK" behavior ok using the native scene explorer.

Outliner ruined my life

All the max files I used outliner are crashing when merging any object. Uninstalling the script dosn't solve the problem, not even merging everything in a new file. I can't get support.

Crash Problem when merging objects

I've organized some layers inside other layers, and now whatever object I try to merge, max crashes. If I delete those layers, they come back again. I'm running max 2012. If I use max 2011 with the same file, it works fine, but if I open the file again in max 2012 the crashes continues. #weird

It helps, but If I dock it

It helps, but If I dock it again .ini file changes to previous state. My way to fix it is to uninstall and install again outliner and keep away from both sides. :)
