Outliner

Version:
2.1.5
Date Updated:
09/13/2012

The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.

Additional Info:

Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

Version Requirement:
3ds Max 2010

.NET 3.5 Framework

PJanssen, glad to see you

PJanssen, glad to see you back on with outliner :)

unfortunately i noticed lately some bugs in layer mode:

1) activate display as box per layer do not work.

2) if you detach an element it appears immediately in the active layer, but if you close outliner and open it again its actually in the same layer as the source object.

based on the need to close and reopen outliner in some situations just to refresh, i miss a refresh button.

i found other bugs too, but they kind of weird, i have to take the time to test them in simpler conditions...

i keep in touch,

and thanks in advance.

Yeah there's no functionality

Yeah there's no functionality to do that in the Outliner. I guess I could add that to the 'workflow tools'.

Hide all layers at once?

Is there a way to hide all layers at once? You can do this with the built-in layer manager in Max but can't find a way to do it in Outliner.

Error downloading

I'm using Win7 64bit and 3ds max design 2012, i can't install outliner, i keep getting the same error as well (i saw a comment of someone having the same problem and solved it by changing the ".zip" ext.):

"copying new files failed. This could be caused by high security settings. Please see the Maxscript Listener for details."

the file was downloaded as outline_install.ms
I'm not sure if the problem is from max 2012. i don't think so. Any other suggestions? help...its kind of urgent

In Maxscript Listener:
Outliner installer exception:
copyScriptFiles
-- Runtime error: dotNet runtime exception: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Users\3DS Max\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMaxDesign\2012 - 32bit\enu\temp\outliner\script\'.
'C:\Users\3DS Max\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMaxDesign\2012 - 32bit\enu\temp\outliner\script\'.

Thank you!!

Hehe, it's been a long time

Hehe, it's been a long time indeed... I will put something up there soon though. Not specifically about 3.0 though, since I have been focussing on getting a lot of things in the current version fixed lately.

Aha ok, I had thought you

Aha ok, I had thought you could use it as a renderpass manager in a way. I will have a think about the alternative material idea.

state sets(stupid name) only

state sets(stupid name) only records changes in scene(like maya overide),but cant be used for asigning alt material/propreties to all objects on single layer.

Ah I see what you mean now.

Ah I see what you mean now. That does sound useful indeed.
I haven't really looked in to the new (?) state sets feature of 3dsmax yet, but perhaps this is something that could be easily done in there?
