Outliner

2.1.5
Date Updated:

The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.

Additional Info:

Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

I guess the easiest way is to:
1. Uninstall the outliner (you can keep the preferences)
2. Restart 3dsmax
3. Open the scene in question and run outlinerNestedLayersCA.removeFromScene()
4. Save the scene and restart 3dsmax.

It could have, I am just trying to rule out all possibilities. It seems outliner adds callbacks to the scenes as well. Is there a way to completely "scrub" the scene of outliner data?

thx

Unfortunately this is not

Unfortunately this is not possible in 3dsmax. The only way to resize a docked window is to undock, resize, then redock.

I remember such a layer

I remember such a layer refresh bug when using xrefs existed in previous Max versions, even prior Outliner even existed. Possibly this bug has returned again ?

Hi,

first of all thanks to your fantastic script.
Would it be possible that you integrate a possibilitie to change its properties in case its docked? I would prefer if it would be a bit smaller? Or did I loose sight of something and it is already integrated?

Cheers,

I am a little suspicious that

I am a little suspicious that the outliner layer info could be causing an issue in my master xref scene. When that scene is loaded, the xref'd scene that contains outliner layer info does not display as loaded in the 3ds max layer manager. The layers are shown in the layer manager, but do not show any objects belonging to them. Only after I open the xref manager dialog and do a manual refresh do they display properly. Since I am using scene states to control layer display, this is a problem because when the layers are in this state they do not turn on/off the objects in the scene. Could be a 3ds max bug, but I am trying to rule out outliner. Therefore, I verified this morning that when outliner is open, you cannot run this command: outlinerNestedLayersCA.removeFromScene() in 2012.

thx

I actually added a "user color schemes" file in the latest update, v2.1.3. See this post on CGTalk for details:

Thanks! Hope your site wasn't

Thanks! Hope your site wasn't hacked or something.

Small feature request: would like to have a white background in Outliner vs. the light grey. I think it would make the contents "pop" more and be easier to read. Of course, not everyone would like that, so I guess the bg color would need to be customizable. This could be in a simple preference file though.
