The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.

Additional Info:

Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

Hello, I'm using 3ds max 2012 with the latest version of Outliner on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine. When I create new objects, the outliner does not refresh. I have to close and open, so I can see the new objects.

As someone already pointed out, switching to Direct3D seems to fix the problem.

I think you should write a little script for this particular task. It sounds like a too exceptional and specific case for the Outliner.

Is it possible to add function to extend "Create New Layer"?

I want to add 80 new layers with same name and with count (for example: NewLayer_001, NewLayer_002,...NewLayer_080). Now I must 80 times click RMB, type or paste layer name, change numbers. Is it possible to add function to extend "Create New Layer" command?
