This little script builds an array of instanced spheres - where each sphere position and colour relates to its corresponding pixel in the chosen bitmap. The sphere wall can then be manipulated in various ways (for eg. collapsing it using dynamics software) This can create an interesting effect if rendered and played backwards.

(This was the bitmap used to generate the Pixel Wall in the screenshot above.  Nice isn't it?)

Additional Info:

How to use it:

  • Load the Script from the MAXScript Rollout, in the utilities menu. Run the Script.
  • Select the desired sphere size and segments.
(These settings can always be adjusted afterwards, as the spheres are instanced.)
  • Press the ‘Select Bitmap and Go!’ button and watch the Pixel Wall being built.
    (It may take a while.)
