The info box will show when you press the corresponding button.

Here is a little script that displays how many x-edged faces you have in your editable polygon object, where x ranges from 3 to the maximum number of edges bordering a face that can be found in your object.

This is useful if you want to see how many triangles / n-gons / quads
you have in your mesh, especially if you like to keep your topology
clean. I think Lightwave and Modo have this sort of utility by default,
I just thought to make one for max. The info box shows when you press the key shortcut you've assigned to the script, which is attached.

Fix since 0.5:
Now supports Editable Polygon objects with any modifiers applied on top. Will only count the base geometry faces.

 

 

Version Requirement: 
3-11 (or up to 2009). Will work on future versions, in theory.
