Little Update

I have update the code a bit. When you have max 2011 and higher the viewport don' freeze anymore (I hope so, because here it works).
I change the spinner from then cube size, so now it shows the world units.
The number of the cubes in axis you see in the information area.
I try the deconstructor script now also, when I know that before that this exist I think I don't start to write my own :). It looks like that its ran a bit smoother. But when I only cut the cubes, by my tests my script was a bit faster, only when I let generate uvs and tris, the other script is faster.
But now the progress bar works also a bit better, and I think now the perceived(?) time goes faster.

thanks for sharing.working nicely but the interface need upgrade.
you should consider adding the option for number of piece in a axis,
a preview option and mentioning the unit of cut pieces.
the mapping option is handy.
it is very slow for large objects compared to deconstructor(another similar script).in fact it is frozen the time i am writing.
hope you will work on it.
