3DS Max to Nuke FAG

1 vote

I did this script to easily send geometry and cameras to nuke.

Warning: Use the script only for export. Save your project before and after return.

max2nuke exchanges animation data between 3ds max and nuke using chanfile data. cameras, axis or transform-geo supported.

worked for free cameras (with or without transform reset) and target cameras.

exports obj sequences to bring mesh animation to nuke 4.8 and higher

nodes can be copied from max and pasted to nuke (which is more comfortable and lots of additional data can be copied)

vray cam focal length is now correctly calculated in relation to focus distance

Render exr files for Nuke (zips)

This script will create exr files from vrimg files rendered with Vray; they are saved as zips, and half float for best compatibility when working in Nuke.

The way it works is very simple, it takes the frame saved as vrimg format saved by vray, and right after it creates a exr saved as zips and half-float, by running the tool included with vray vrimg2exr.exe; This is done with a callback script post rendered frame, so if is a sequence of frames, they will all get converted as they finish rendering.

A set of functions wrapped into a minimalist single-click button to help 3ds Max and Nuke artists to bring the 3ds Max 3d scene assets into Nuke's powerful 3d compositing scene.

This tool allows:

1) Copy cameras and any other objects (as points) and their animation into clipboard for an easy Copy+Paste action inside Nuke.

2) Generate .chan files from selected cameras and any other objects (as points) and save them either many at once or one at a time to selected destination.

This is a script request developed for a friend of mine how uses Nuke's 3d tracker.

*** Bug fixes, objects support (need seperate export from nuke), set origin added, workflow improvements (second video with the updates)
