3DS Max - Link Sub Object Elements To An Object

0 votes

In this tutorial, we will see how we can bind sub-object elements to an external object using a modifier called Linked XForm, so that when modifying the transforms of this object the sub-object elements will be affected. We will three different scenarios where this modifier can be useful. Of course, you can think of different scenarios of your own. Also, we will see how we can animate the external objects and have the sub-object elements animated without really creating any keyframes for them.

This script will help the user match the material of a source object to a target object
First, you need to select the source object then click the script, now start picking your target objects
When you finish picking just right-click, or press Enter, and the picked Objects will have the same material as the source
Object plus any UVW Map modifier or Unwrap UVW modifier applied to it.

3DS Max - Plugin - CopyPasteDWG

This plugin allows the user to copy-paste objects from an opened AutoCAD file into 3DS Max.
The plugin works with multiple opened CAD files, it recognizes the last copied objects.
The script offers many filtering options for the imported objects like:
1-removing the prefix "Layer:" and this will make it easier to select objects by name
2-remove any material applied to the imported objects
3-remove the Block/Style Parent hierarchies
4-select the imported objects when importing is done
5-turn the imported objects into a group

3DS Max - Plugin - MatchMaterialAndUVs v2 0

This script I created allows the user to match a source's material, UVW Maps, and Unwrap UVW(you can choose what you like to apply from those 3), with the possibility of preserving the targets existent similar modifiers or replacing those with the source's ones.
Please whatch the video to see all the features present in the dialog box that opens up, and how to use the script.

Note: This script is a major upgrade for a script I've done before: https://youtu.be/_Cl0L-6iyIs?si=ZoMj4x-qSSykWDmI

3DS Max - Plugin - Move To Surface V2.0 [Update]

1 vote

This is an updated version of the script called "Move To Surface",
that you can find it in this same playlist on my YouTube channel.
To use it, select a collection of objects, click the script, pick a target geometry to drop the selected objects onto.
This updated version will consider the presence of groups, or/and objects that are in a hierarchy and will drop the topmost parent.

3DS Max - Plugin - ZoomExtSelFix

This plugin is intended to replace the built-in Zoom Extents Selected. The reason is that the built-in feature doesn't work the way it should in many cases as you'll see in the video and instead of zooming in on the selected object, it zooms out to show the whole scene.

In this update, the script will work on sub-object selections. Also, a bug in the first version is fixed, when you switch to another mode other than the Modify Panel, the first version gives an error, this is fixed now in this 1.5 version.
To recap on why this plugin:
The default Zoom Extents Selected tool in Max has an issue when you're in a sub-object level but no sub-object element is selected, pressing Z(the default shortcut) causes Max to Zoom Extents on the whole scene instead of the selected object.

3DS Max - Plugin - [UPDATE] - CopyPaste V1.5

This is an update for the CopyPaste plugin. This plugin allows you to copy and paste geometry between opened 3DS Max files, of course, in the same file too. This version includes a few additional features. The most important one is the ability to copy and paste using a base point. Also, there is a button that allows you to clear the cache file to save space on the hard drive. And, lastly, a Status section that gives you feedback whenever you perform an action. Please check the demo video for an in-depth explanation.

3DS Max - Plugin [UPDATE] - drawparamLine v2

This major update brings you new features and improvements to already existing ones. Now, in addition to the existing method using a picked point and XYZ orientations, where you can change the length after creation, you have a second method of creation using two picked points, where the line will start on the first point and points in the direction of the second one using the length value in the spinner. Also, in this version, you can load 2D shapes from the scene, that have 2 vertices only, and change their lengths, the script will always respect their current orientations.
