Smart Poly Extrude

I saw this thread and decide to make a script. :)

Then Syphorlate show a very elegant solution for quadratic extrusion and I add it to the script.

This is the final version of this script. Any future development of smart extrusion is in Syphorlate hands.

Work only with Editable Poly objects.

Important:

After each extrusion press the "Apply" or "OK" button to confirm the new mesh shape.

Installation: Drag and drop the mzp file in 3ds max.

Unzip the MZP file(using any archiver) and copy the PolyExtrudeIcons.png in maxRoot/UI/icons folder or in maxRoot/UI-in/icons folder. Then restart 3dsmax.

Go to Customize-Customize User Interface-"miauu" category.

Version Requirement:
tested on max 2009 (should work in older versions too!)

Feedback / or i found a bug

Hi Miauu !

It is a great script. But if i work with etidablepoly object with turbosmooth modifier and when i press extrude button it shows error:
--Runtime error: Epoly operation on non-editable poly: editable mesh

But if i delete turbosmooth modifier it works fine.

3dsmax 2011 SP2 x64

Can you fix it?

Many thanks and good luck!

Edit Poly Modifier support

Same question like for Super Poly Bridge - do you think you could
support to use a Edit Poly Modifier instead of just the Edit
Poly Object? That would be amazing :)

I will look into it. I am

I will look into it. I am currently working on making the extrusion "perfect" which means that you can extrude any sort of face selection(even a 3d volume) and always get a stable outline. When I'm done with it I can surely make it to work with editable poly modifier but this might take a while like come back in a month or something.

Also I will upload the new and perfect version as a new script on scriptspot also with new illustrations of the capabilities of this script. From the description here it is not really easy to see what the script actually can do. That it creates a stable extrusion outline even for meshes with a lot of corner points.

I don't have much time for

I don't have much time for scripting. But.... in the near future may be. As I'd say the Syphorlate is tha man who will develop the script from now, because the mai extrude method and code was writen by him. :)

Yes I will do that. But

Yes I will do that. But currently I don't have the time for that. And the script has to be perfect for that. I'm thinking about replacing extrudefaces with bevelfaces. But right now I really don't have the time for it.
