wireBundler

12 votes

Creates a number of wires that travel through various target objects. Useful for making bundles of wires for robots or other mechanical devices in a few simple clicks.

Tutorial:
Make 3 spheres anywhere in the viewport. Select all 3 spheres. Run the UI version of the script. In the wirebundler interface, click on "Add select to target list". Click Apply. It will make 10 splines, each the vertex of each spline will exist inside one of the 3 spheres. Play with the settings to get different effects.

Dynamic registration with mxscom

12 votes

If you are like me - you have multiple max installations on your machine - but you want to use your favorite 3rd party text editor (via rezn8's mxscome bridge) with all of them. However if you are like me - you are probably tired of manually pointing mxscom to your particular installation of max everytime you want to switch.

Dispersion

12 votes

Dispersion is when different wavelengths refract differently. I guess the most obvious case of this is a rainbow.

Real sunlight is a spectra containing basically an infinite number of wavelengths at once, and each of the different wavelengths will refract slightly differently... i.e. when a sunray hits a surface, one would (in principle) need to trace an infinite amount of rays around the scene to get the "real" effect.

Inset by Smoothing Group

12 votes

As the mcg installation process was pretty convoluted, I decided to redo the InsetBySmoothingGroup modifier in maxscript - the speed is the same and you don't have to care about different versions of max behaving different, connecting disconnected nodes and all that stuff. Now it's just one .ms file, and there's no vertex weld needed either.

Smooth out bezier knot handles. Try it - you might like it.

Pixel Wall

12 votes

This little script builds an array of instanced spheres - where each sphere position and colour relates to its corresponding pixel in the chosen bitmap. The sphere wall can then be manipulated in various ways (for eg. collapsing it using dynamics software) This can create an interesting effect if rendered and played backwards.

UVW Aspect Fix

The script takes existing UVW Elements and scales them relatively to
their proportions in the parent object.

Works only on a single poly or mesh object.
