hi,
CRC is a free script for generating car rigs in few clicks.

- few clicks rig creation
- support uneven surface
- supports body, wheels, steering wheel and breaks animation
- i tried to make it as simple as possible

installation: MAXScript->Run Script->install_CRC.mzp then in toolbars search for Frodo's Magic Bag->Car Rig Creator

version 0.3.1:

- added labels to buttons so now you know what buttons do and what you must pick
- as track you cant select geometry object
- removed pivots pre-requirement now are sets automaticly

version 0.4:

- added steering wheel rig
- modifyin track shape after creating rig will not cause any axes helpers scaling

version 0.4.1

- added breaks rig
- fixed deflection of wheels from axes when are conformed to very steep surface
- animation control helpers is more evident (red one named "front axis helper")
- breaks(front or back pair) and steering wheel are not required
- whole script progress can be watched in listener window

in next release (v0.5) will be following features:

- thanks to Shawn Lewis's Follow Surface no max standard conform space warp is needed, so you will be able to set terrain directly in script ui(and thanks this creating of car rig will be mutch easier)
- car speed setup and measurement
- better layer management
- fixed OMG bug on folowing steep terrain

version 0.6

- after two days effort i decided to rewrite the code
- some promised features from v0.5 hasnt beed added :(
- car speed setup and measurement (testing)

- added simple camera with rig(standart)

- fixed "Not creatable: Normalize_Spl" error

Version Requirements

Is this script supposed to work with Max Version 8 or will it only function with a newer version.

I get an error message using Max Version 8. Is it possible to make this work with version 8?

i understand your suggestion but in top viewport you cant select wheels anyway (only with F3 on)) because its covered under car body :) but like i said i understand your suggestion and i think its a matter of habit

if more people dislike this ill swap it ;)

Amazing script!

It took a couple of minutes to find out how things tick. But once you got it right it's super simple!
Take a look here at my test:

(The wheels looks as if the aren't touching the plane but that's just the simple viewport shadows. Wheels are correctly bound to the ground the whole time.)

I do have a suggestion:
• Flip the car (and wheels) over in the grab-pictures. Since the car is supposed to be front-down in the top viewport, it's a little confusing to select opposite wheels. ;)

Thanks a lot for a great and very useful script!

Whoops. Schoolboy error. I

Whoops. Schoolboy error. I was selecting my terrain object after clicking on the road button. Hence it not working properly. Perhaps you could add some labels for the button in the script to make it clear that the road button means the path/spline, not the actual road object.

damn, i did not realize that

damn, i did not realize that it is necessary to describe these things :) im so sorry

for now i´ll write it and in the future i create a better manual
so...

1) you need a car prepared by steps in pre-requirements
2) you need a terrain (any geometry)
3) you need track, this is a 2D spline (X,Y) representin car ride over the terrain

4) pick car elements with corresponding buttons
5) pick 2D spline track with corresponding button
6) create the ring
7) follow instructions in help image ( this is necessary to conform car to terrain, because max script do not support calling this function you must do it manualy :( )

i hope I did not discourage you too much but still is this the 0.3 version :)

When I click on the last button I get -- Runtime error: Modifier is not appropriate: Normalize_Spl:Normalize Spl.

Still no joy with the rig working either, could you please post some instructions?

Any help or tips?

What are the steps to rig the car? I've set my car up as per your Pre-requirements tab, but can't figure out what to do to create the rig.

I've tried selecting on each part and then clicking the corrisponding button, but nothing seems to happen!
