Outliner

Version:
2.1.5
Date Updated:
09/13/2012

The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.

Additional Info:

Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

Version Requirement:
3ds Max 2010

Let Autodesk know about this

Let Autodesk know about this issue too. Apparently they created some regression issues.
I don't think I'll have much time to do something about it soon I'm afraid.

Any chance of getting a Max

Any chance of getting a Max 2014 update? When I press the "h" key, Max crashes and gives the regular old "sorry for the inconvenience" crash message. I'm using 2.1.5.

closing the outliner

The outliner is really great. Love it.

There's only one bug that annoys me. I am using 3ds max 2011 and opening the outliner is really fast. But when closing it 3ds Max becomes unresponsive for a while (maybe 30 seconds). Do you have a solution to that problem?

No materials in outliners "material mode" window.

In 2009 max there is only "unassigned" material with objects w\o mat (groups, lights, cams). If assign any mat to any obj - it becomes to be seen with list of relative objects. But if I change mode and then turn it back - there is only one "unassigned" material again.

hiding group contents in layer mode

It says on the mouseover that when "hiding group contents" is active it still moves all contents when moving a group to another layer.
I'm having a problem with it not doing so.

edit: btw: i'm on max 2010, working on a scene made in 2013 but saved as 2010, and continuing work there.

hi, i have to report 1

hi, i have to report 1 situation with outliner.
i run 3ds max 2013 64bit as administrator.

is this behavior expected? :
when i select a layer in outliner, i can't delete the contained selected objects. if, while selected by outliner i open layer window, and right click-> select, contained objects can't be delete. i have to un-select first, select them again in viewport or from layer window and then they can be delete.

Remove Nested Layers Command Not Working

Stupid question perhaps, but did you actually press the "Remove Nested Layers" button?

Remove Nested Layers Command Not Working

Hi,

I am using the latest version with 2013 and have noticed that the remove nested layers toolbar command is not working. When I click it, it closes outliner and prints "Waiting for user input..." in the dialog. I am just trying to remove the nested layers in the current scene. Any ideas?

thx
