Outliner

Version:
2.1.5
Date Updated:
09/13/2012

The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.

Additional Info:

Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

It looks like the problem

After spending a few days trying to get along without Outliner I decided I really needed to get it back up and running. I re-installed it (it didn't say install, it said re-install) but it kept popping up the error. So I went to uninstall it and complained about not being able to remove "hotkey preferences". The uninstaller bar didn't finish and I had to close the window. I shut down our overactive virus scanner and tried uninstalling again, success! Then I was able to install (instead of re-install) and its working fine now.

The only weird thing is that the files that where throwing errors, now open fine but have missing layers. They where empty layers and that normally happens when I merge files but these files where not merged but old 2012 files I was opening in 2014.

.

How to reproduce this?
I tested with 3 nested layers(layer01-layer02-layer03), but max still works.

Careful with 3dsmax2014 and

Careful with 3dsmax2014 and SP3. This caused outliner to encounter problems while updating nested layers and then crashes max. SP2 and lower work just fine with outliner but something Autodesk did in SP3 breaks outliner.
