Outliner

Version:
2.1.5
Date Updated:
09/13/2012

The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.

Additional Info:

Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

Render Farm Issues

When using the Outliner script with Deadline, we get pop-up errors. When we disable the nested layer warning in the options, we still get errors. We end up having to run the "remove nested layer warning" script you provide. Is there a better/easier way to not get these errors. I dont want the whole team to have to remember to run that utility script. Thanks for a great script btw!

That is strange. I've tried it here (updating from 2.0.8, using 3dsmax 2010), and it works just fine. What should happen is that a download dialog pops up, showing the download progress. After that, the regular outliner installer should appear automatically.
You can manually install the latest version though, by downloading it manually and following the "upgrading" instructions on the website: http://script.threesixty.nl/outliner/?page=download

could not update to 2.09

After pressed *Check Now* button, it told me about new version and asked me for install -> OK . Nothing happened.
Restart MAX it still there, 2.08. (sure that my internet on working)
Hope that it is not a bug or 2.08 got no Update Online feature (?!)

Thank for your script, your work is excellent.

I've updated the Outliner to

I've updated the Outliner to version 2.0.95. This is still a release for max 2008 and above. Most notable changes are fixes to the search field and an added "clear search field" button in the main UI.

As always, the easiest way to update is through the Outliner (Options->General->Check Now). For those running 2.0.94, you'll now get to see the new update dialog, I hope you'll like it!

Use the asterisk sign (*) to

Use the asterisk sign (*) to search for any occurrence in the object's name. So *rig would include mesh_rig.
Additionally, when pressing return after searching, all matching nodes will be selected.

Feature

Superbeb script, one of the most useful so far, I just wish that the search bar could find parts of the object's name, like searching for "rig" would include mesh_rig in the results.

Sorry for my poor english.

Version 2.0.94

I've uploaded a new update: 2.0.94:
* Added location and hide option for search bar.
* Improved update functionality.
* When uninstalling manually, the preferences file can be preserved. (Automatic uninstallation as part of an update always preserves preferences).

This will be the last version that supports 3dsmax 2008. More about that later.
