Outliner
The Outliner 2.0 is a fast and easy to use scene management tool. It has a wide range of features, including selecting, hiding, freezing, linking and grouping objects in the "Hierarchy Mode". In the "Layer Mode" you can organize your scene by dragging&dropping objects from one layer to the other. What's more, the Outliner offers support for nested layers, to manage scenes more efficiently. The interface is nimble enough to keep it open constantly.
Compared to the previous version (1.6.1), there are many improvements. Most notable among them are: hugely increased performance, improved stability, nested layer support and many small tweaks to improve the ease of use. For a list of all changes, click here

Yeah the window 'jumping' is a very annoying thing. It is a bug in maxscript which I thought I had compensated for. But perhaps if it happens again, they fixed it and the Outliner is now overcompensating so to say.
I will see if I can do something about the window dragging.
flicker
indeed, if you move the outliner main window, it flickers strangely moving borders and in the same time the full window stay where it was until mouse button is released on new location.
it feels also very slow and hard at moving the window (its not smooth like any other window).
and every time open/close outliner, it moves the window a little down & right, have to reposition the window all the time.
everything else, that actually is what matters, seams great.
thx a lot for your hard work, cant wait to see newer versions, especially v3.

A wish:
It would be very cool to be able to dock the filter configure menu (the icon-set) to the Outliner's main UI, so you don't need to open it every time you make changes. Perhaps under the search bar.
Nevertheless a WONDERFUL script, superior in almost every aspect to max's own crappy new selector.

Is this when dragging one or more nodes in the Outliner, or when dragging the entire window?
Flicker
Anyone know why Outliner doesn't show contents while dragging? It just shows a flickering outline of the window. Is this a redraw bug? I'm using Max 2011 x64 in Windows 7.
New website!
The Outliner 2.0 had its 1 year anniversary yesterday! A good moment for an overhaul of the website:

In the "development blog" section I'll occasionally write about the progress of the development of the Outliner.
I looked into this issue, and
I looked into this issue, and it turns out that the Target object is actually a Geometry object! Rather surprising, but there we have the reason for its apparently strange filter behavior. I will make a workaround for that somewhere in the Outliner, so that it will be filtered with the Helpers.
Thanks for reminding me about
Thanks for reminding me about that. That they have a helper icon is correct, the target object is a helper after all.
But that it is filtered as geometry is strange! I should look into that.
filter bug report
thank you for Outliner!

Update 2.0.96
I have updated the Outliner to version 2.0.96, fixing a frequently occurring crash when deleting nodes through the context menu. Use the update function in the Outliner's options dialog to get it, or alternatively download it from the website.
